Bill to establish Bogura University introduced in parliament

A bill to establish a public university in Bogura was introduced in Bangladesh's parliament, seeking to repeal the Bogura Science and Technology University Act of 2001. Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon presented the Bogura University Act, 2026, which was then referred to the parliamentary standing committee on the law ministry for review.

The original Bogura Science and Technology University Act was passed in 2001 during the tenure of the BNP government. The statement accompanying the new bill indicates that administrative and academic activities for the proposed university are currently being initiated. The draft legislation was prepared in line with the Prime Minister's commitment to establish a full-fledged university in the Bogura district, considering current realities.

The proposed law intends to transform the initially planned science and technology university into a comprehensive institution. It will provide education and research opportunities in a wide array of disciplines, including science, life sciences, engineering, technical studies, arts, social sciences, business administration, law, agriculture, and medical sciences. The overarching goal is to foster knowledge creation and produce skilled human resources.
