Blackmail Won’t Stop Gov Abiodun’s Senatorial Ambition — Akindele

Olufemi Akindele, leader of the Centre for the Advocacy of Human Rights and Social Justice (CAHRSC), has issued a strong rebuttal against what he terms a "desperate and malicious smear campaign" targeting Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun. Akindele vehemently condemned the circulation of a document titled “31 Questions for Governor Dapo Abiodun,” labeling it a "crude, libelous fabrication" allegedly orchestrated by a serving Ogun senator. He warned that such blackmail tactics would not deter the governor's senatorial ambitions, urging the public to recognize the "tired script of deceit" being employed.

For seven years, this individual has flooded the public space with toxic falsehoods, hiding behind faceless propagandists and hired pens. His latest ‘31 questions’ stunt is nothing but another episode in his long-running theatre of blackmail and desperation.

Akindele detailed that the allegations presented in the document are either recycled claims previously dismissed by courts, including the Supreme Court, or entirely fabricated stories designed to mislead the public. He characterized these "questions" as the "warped inventions of a man clearly rattled by his fading political relevance," accusing the senator of clutching at straws and attempting to drag others down. The CAHRSC leader further described the senator as "morally bankrupt and politically treacherous," alleging that he had betrayed the very leadership that once supported his career, specifically mentioning Governor Abiodun's role in reviving his political fortunes.

The statement also accused the senator of undermining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from within, alleging a pattern of disloyalty and "double game" by fraternizing with opposition elements. Akindele suggested that the senator's recent actions are driven by fear of electoral defeat, noting his "zero prospects of returning to the Senate" and his resort to "emotional blackmail and cheap populism." He urged the people of Ogun East to see through these "theatrics" and ignore the "flood of lies," emphasizing that the endorsement of Governor Abiodun by APC stakeholders reflects the genuine will of the people. Akindele advised the senator to pursue lawful channels for any grievances, including addressing his suspension and seeking reconciliation within the party, rather than resorting to mudslinging.

It is a matter of public record that Governor Abiodun extended goodwill to this man, lifting him from political obscurity and facilitating his rise. Yet, he repaid that gesture with betrayal—colluding with opposition forces to sabotage the governor’s re-election efforts.
