BMKG Issues Tidal Flood Warning for Six Bali Coasts

Residents and businesses along six coastal areas of Bali are urged to prepare for potential tidal flooding between August 11 and 17. The warning comes from the Region III Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Center (BBMKG) in Denpasar, which cited the lunar perigee phenomenon as the primary driver.

Cahyo Nugroho, head of BBMKG Region III, explained that the moon's closest approach to Earth on August 10, coinciding with the new moon on August 13, will cause maximum sea levels. This celestial alignment is expected to raise sea levels significantly across the southern coasts of Jembrana, Tabanan, and Klungkung regencies, as well as the coastlines of Badung Regency, Denpasar City, and Gianyar Regency.

The timing and intensity of the high tides will vary across these regions. The BBMKG cautioned that the flooding could disrupt port loading and unloading operations. Coastal residential areas are also at risk, as are traditional economic activities such as salt farming and inland fishery operations. The agency advises the public to stay updated via their official channels.
