Boat catches fire and sinks off Göcek coast: Passengers and crew evacuated

A charter boat, the 'Princess Alize,' caught fire and subsequently sank in Hamam Bay near Göcek, Fethiye district, Muğla province. The incident occurred around 6:30 AM when a fire broke out in the vessel's engine room.

Upon receiving the distress call, coastal security, coast guard, and port authority teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. All 5 passengers and the 3 crew members aboard the boat were successfully evacuated. Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities or injuries.

Emergency teams worked for approximately two hours to extinguish the flames. Despite their efforts, the burning vessel could not be saved and eventually sank. Security measures have been put in place around the area where the boat went down.

An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the fire. The incident highlights the risks associated with maritime travel, even in seemingly calm conditions, and the importance of rapid emergency response.
