Turkey Records Numerous Minor Earthquakes on July 20

Turkey registered a series of minor seismic activities across the country on July 20, 2026. The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and the Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory continuously monitor and report all seismic movements in and around Turkey.

The recorded earthquakes varied in magnitude, with most falling between 0.8 and 2.7. Several tremors were detected in the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, indicating ongoing geological activity in these marine regions. Additionally, Kütahya province in western Turkey experienced multiple small earthquakes, primarily around the Emet district.

Other affected areas included Tunceli, Kırşehir, Balıkesir, Muğla, Aydın, and Istanbul. The depths of these earthquakes were generally shallow, ranging from 2 to 19.9 kilometers. While these seismic events were minor and unlikely to cause significant damage, their frequency highlights the country's position in an active seismic zone.
