Boko Haram Received 90% of Ransom Money in Nigeria Kidnappings: Report

A recent report by SBM Intelligence, a research think tank, reveals a grim picture of the kidnapping crisis in Nigeria, detailing that over 7,000 individuals were abducted within a single year. The study highlights the significant financial toll of these crimes, with at least N7.78 billion paid out in ransom demands.

The report further exposes the alarming extent to which the militant group Boko Haram has profited from these abductions. It estimates that the terrorist organization secured over 90% of the total ransom money paid, underscoring its deep involvement and financial reliance on kidnapping activities.

These findings paint a stark picture of the pervasive insecurity in parts of Nigeria, where kidnapping for ransom has become a pervasive threat affecting thousands of citizens.
