Boniface strengthens Leverkusen comeback

Victor Boniface demonstrated his resurgent form for Bayer Leverkusen with another impactful performance in their 3-1 friendly victory over Kickers Offenbach. The Nigerian striker, who came on at halftime, significantly transformed Leverkusen's attack with his dynamic movement, effective link-up play, and creativity.

Boniface was directly involved in both of Leverkusen's second-half goals. He expertly controlled the ball and drove into the penalty area before setting up Jonas Hofmann for the go-ahead goal. He was again instrumental in the build-up to the third goal, providing the assist for Hofmann, whose cross was then converted by Afonso Moreira.

The 25-year-old nearly added to his tally in the 65th minute after a well-coordinated play with Moreira and Ezequiel Fernández, but his close-range shot was blocked. This display follows his brace in Leverkusen's opening pre-season match against Sportfreunde Bamberg, further bolstering his chances of featuring prominently under new head coach Carles Martínez.

After an injury-plagued loan spell at Werder Bremen that raised doubts about his future, Boniface appears to be regaining the form that established him as a formidable forward in the Bundesliga. Leverkusen managing director Simon Rolfes has praised the striker's improved physical condition, and reports suggest Martínez wants Boniface to continue a gradual fitness rebuilding process.

Against Offenbach, Boniface showcased encouraging progress, appearing sharp in possession, contributing defensively, and creating two goals through intelligent, unselfish play. While Christian Kofane also provides an attacking option, Boniface's consistent pre-season performances are strengthening his claim for a significant role in Leverkusen's 2026/27 campaign.
