Flying Eagles face Ghana in WAFU B opener

Nigeria's Flying Eagles are set to commence their defense of the WAFU B U-20 Championship title against familiar foes Ghana. This opening match is a repeat of the last edition's final, where Nigeria emerged victorious. The team, under new head coach Abdu Maikaba, is determined to start their campaign with a win to retain the trophy.

Maikaba, who previously served as an assistant coach for the Flying Eagles, expressed his team's objective: "We are going for an outright victory against Ghana because our objective is to retain the trophy and we have to start winning our matches from Day One." The encounter is scheduled to take place in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, with Nigeria aiming to build on their recent 2-1 friendly victory over Athlétique Club de Zenuola.

The rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana in football is long-standing, promising a competitive match. A victory against Ghana would significantly boost the Flying Eagles' chances of qualifying for the semi-finals. Following this crucial opener, Nigeria will face Togo on July 30 and Burkina Faso on August 2, both matches also scheduled for a 2 p.m. local time kickoff.
