Super Falcons midfielder Esther Okoronkwo has issued a strong response to racist abuse she received on social media after speaking out about a theft incident at the team's hotel. Okoronkwo had publicly stated that cash was stolen from her and several teammates at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Okoronkwo took to Instagram to condemn the hateful messages, which included monkey emojis and other offensive comments. She posted, "Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that. We move forward with pride, unity and determination. See you on the pitch." This defiant stance comes as the team remains focused on the upcoming tournament.

The theft involved players like goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Michelle Alozie, and captain Rasheedat Ajibade. Following Okoronkwo's public complaint, reports emerged that a suspect has been arrested and confessed to the crime. Nigerian journalist Colin Udoh reported that the suspect is expected to make full restitution while legal proceedings continue. Udoh also urged FIFA and CAF to take action against the racist abuse directed at the player.

Despite these off-field distractions, the Super Falcons are concentrating on their goal of winning an 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title. The team, managed by Justine Madugu, is set to begin their Group C campaign against Malawi, followed by matches against Zambia and Egypt.
