Chenge, 15, becomes youngest player at 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations

Tanzania's Elizabeth Chenge has made history as the youngest player at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, officially recognized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). At just 15 years old, Chenge is part of a new wave of talent emerging across the continent, with 413 players registered across the 16 participating nations in Morocco.

Chenge's youth stands in contrast to other players in the tournament. She is three years younger than Nigeria's goalkeeper Fatima Oloko, who is 18. The oldest players at this year's WAFCON are Mali midfielder Fatoumata Diarra and Zambia forward Racheal Nachula, both 40 years old. Nigeria's oldest representative is Osiachi Ohale, who will turn 35 in December.

The 2026 WAFCON, kicking off in Morocco, will see 16 teams compete for continental glory, with defending champions Nigeria aiming for their 11th title.
