Brazil presidential candidate Rui Costa Pimenta investigated for alleged embezzlement of party funds

Federal police in Brazil have launched "Operation Causa Própria," targeting individuals suspected of diverting funds from the Workers' Party of Labor (PCO). Presidential candidate Rui Costa Pimenta, 69, is among those facing search and seizure warrants.

The operation, which also includes precautionary measures like freezing bank accounts and seizing assets, stems from an analysis of electoral and party financial statements. The Federal Police indicated that public funds designated for political and electoral activities appear to have been channeled to companies and individuals lacking the operational capacity to justify the amounts received, or with indirect ties to the party's structure.

Authorities are also imposing asset restrictions and temporarily removing investigated individuals from directorial and administrative roles within entities linked to the alleged misconduct. Rui Costa Pimenta's campaign has not yet responded to requests for comment.
