Brazilian judge dismissed over sexual harassment allegations

The Superior Court of Justice (STJ) in Brazil has dismissed Magistrate Marco Buzzi from his post, handing down the maximum possible penalty in response to sexual harassment allegations. The court cited "disciplinary infractions" in its decision against Buzzi, who has maintained his innocence and plans to appeal to the Supreme Court.

During the session, both the defense and the accusers presented their cases, followed by statements from the prosecution and the reporting judge, who recommended the dismissal. Buzzi, a member of the STJ since 2011, had been provisionally suspended in February while awaiting a final ruling.

Reports indicate Buzzi, 68, is accused of harassing an 18-year-old woman in January during a summer vacation. The alleged incident occurred at his home, where the young woman was staying. Shortly after these allegations surfaced, Brazil's National Council of Justice announced it had received another harassment complaint against Buzzi and would launch an investigation. The second accuser is reportedly a former employee of Buzzi's tribunal staff.
