Bromo Wildfire Spreads to 742 Hectares

A wildfire in Indonesia's popular Bromo mountain region continues to spread, now affecting 742 hectares of land. Authorities are battling the blaze with a multi-pronged approach, deploying three helicopters for water bombing, one drone, and eight fire units on the ground.

The firefighting operation includes a joint task force comprising disaster management agencies from Surabaya, Mojokerto, Pasuruan, Probolinggo, Lumajang, and Malang, along with the provincial BPBD. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has also contributed two helicopters, and the East Java provincial government provided another.

Ground teams from the Indonesian military (TNI), police (Polri), the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park authority (BB TNBTS), and numerous volunteers are working in synergy to extinguish the flames. Water bombing efforts are currently concentrated on the P30 area in Dingklik, Pasuruan, and other locations showing signs of active fire.

Earlier reports indicated the fire was nearing residential areas, with vegetation like mountain pine, mentigen, acacia, and shrubs burning. Despite the escalating situation, no fatalities have been reported. The fire began on August 3, 2026, around 5 PM local time.
