Bruno Fernandes Voted England's Best Player by His Colleagues

Bruno Fernandes, the influential captain of Manchester United, has been recognized as the best male footballer in England, earning the prestigious Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Player of the Year award. The Portuguese midfielder's stellar performance throughout the season earned him this accolade from his peers.

Fernandes had a remarkable individual season, breaking the Premier League record for assists with 21, surpassing legendary figures like Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. He also contributed nine goals, playing a pivotal role in Manchester United's strong finish to the season, securing third place and a spot in the Champions League.

This award adds to Fernandes' collection, as he was also named the best player by the British press in May. Reflecting on the recognition, the Portuguese playmaker stated, "Obviously it is a moment of much pride. They (the players) are the same ones you have against you when you go out to play, and probably it is not easy to vote for someone you play against, so it is a very good moment."

In the women's league, Khadija Shaw of Manchester City claimed her second consecutive PFA award as the best player. Shaw was instrumental in Manchester City's triumph, scoring 21 goals to guide the team to their first league title in a decade. Additionally, Nico O'Reilly from Manchester City was honored as the young player of the year for his outstanding performance, including a brace in the League Cup final victory over Arsenal.
