Bubbi: 'I am not running away from anything'

Icelandic musician Bubbi Morthens describes his daily creative output as a source of profound joy and purpose. He reveals that he has composed 80 songs in the last eleven months alone, with many more ideas existing as demos on his phone.

"I fall asleep with purpose and I wake up with purpose," Morthens stated in an interview with Morgunblaðið's Dagmálum. He emphasizes that his songwriting is not an act of evasion. "I am not running away from anything. That time has passed when I was running into myself or running into my addiction."

Morthens maintains a vast collection of musical ideas, with 678 demo songs currently recorded on his phone. He believes that quantity leads to quality, explaining, "If you write a hundred songs, you have thirty songs that are excellent." He advises fellow musicians against limiting their output, suggesting they should write fifty songs for an album and then choose the best ones.

This prolific approach fuels his passion, which he describes as "this incredible joy." He finds immense satisfaction in the continuous creation of music, viewing it as the most enjoyable aspect of his life.
