Bulungan Regency Makes History with Independence Day Ceremony at Botanical Garden

The Bulungan Regency government has set a new precedent by hosting the 81st Indonesian Independence Day ceremony at the Bundayati Botanical Garden in Tanjung Selor. This marks the first time the historic event has been celebrated at this location.

Regent Syarwani, who led the ceremony attended by approximately one thousand participants, expressed his hope that the 86-hectare Bundayati Botanical Garden will evolve into a central hub for community activities. Currently, only about 30 hectares of the total area are being utilized. Syarwani stated that the choice of this location symbolizes love for the nation and the Bulungan Regency. The site was previously used for the Bulungan Regency Anniversary commemoration last October.

"Hopefully, this will also be a place that can be used for various commemoration events in the future," Syarwani said, adding that his administration and the community aim to maximize the botanical garden's facilities for fostering connections and strengthening diversity. He expressed gratitude for the smooth, safe, and orderly execution of the ceremony, thanking all officials, guests, and the Punan Batu Benau indigenous community for their participation.

In addition to the main ceremony at the botanical garden, Independence Day commemorations were held simultaneously in all 10 sub-districts of Bulungan Regency, each led by their respective sub-district heads. Several members of the Bulungan Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) also attended ceremonies in their electoral districts. The Tanjung Selor Sub-district held its ceremony separately in Gunung Sari Village.

The Bundayati Botanical Garden is currently undergoing development. This year, plans include the construction of three traditional houses representing the Bulungan, Tidung, and Dayak cultures. Additional facilities such as an educational and children's play park, an amphitheater, and sports amenities are also planned. These developments aim to transform the area into a meeting point for the Bulungan community, a place for learning, sports, and fostering a healthy lifestyle awareness.
