Bus catches fire in Warsaw; passengers evacuated safely

The bus, belonging to city line 213, caught fire in the engine compartment shortly before 7 a.m. on the corner of Poprawna and Kadetów streets. Fortunately, quick thinking by the driver ensured that all seven individuals on board, including himself, were safely evacuated, with no injuries sustained.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing an explosion before the flames rapidly engulfed the vehicle. One witness, Maciej, described the driver's immediate and decisive action to evacuate everyone, noting that the fire escalated too quickly for the driver to effectively use the onboard fire extinguishers. The intensity of the blaze was such that the driver could only attempt to tackle it with one extinguisher before realizing the futility of further efforts against the rapidly spreading flames.

The driver said that at one point he heard an explosion. Flames quickly appeared. He immediately evacuated the passengers. Nobody was hurt.

Emergency services responded promptly, with three fire crews arriving at the scene to combat the fire. The blaze has since been extinguished, but the investigation into its cause is ongoing. The incident, while thankfully without casualties, caused significant traffic disruptions in the area. The Municipal Transport Authority (ZTM) announced rerouting for bus lines 213 and 219, advising commuters of potential delays and detours as the affected intersection was cleared.
