CAF Confederation Cup Final: Guirat appointed VAR referee for second leg

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the refereeing appointments for the crucial second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final, with Tunisian official Haythem Guirat set to oversee the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. This highly anticipated match will see Egyptian giants Zamalek SC face off against Algeria's USM Alger on May 16 at the Cairo International Stadium.

Guirat will be supported in the VAR room by Mauritanian Maria Rivet and Cameroonian Carine Fomo. On the field, the central refereeing duties will fall to Gabon's Pierre Atcho, assisted by his compatriots Boris Ditsoga and Amous Ndong, with Patrick Mbiame serving as the fourth official. This selection underscores the CAF's commitment to utilizing experienced officials for its premier club competitions.

Meanwhile, the first leg of the final, scheduled for May 9 at the 5-Juillet-1962 Stadium in Algiers, will be managed by Mauritanian referee Dahane Beida. He will be assisted by Angola's Jerson Emiliano Dos Santos and Cameroon's Elvis Noupue, while Abdel Aziz Bouh of Mauritania will act as the fourth official. The VAR for the first leg will be supervised by Ghana's Daniel Laryea.

This final pits USM Alger, who eliminated Morocco's Olympique de Safi, against Zamalek, who overcame fellow Algerian side CR Belouizdad. The appointments highlight the continental nature of the competition and the diverse representation of officials from various African nations, reflecting the CAF's broad reach and the importance of fair play in determining the continental champion.
