Canelones creates plan to repair potholes in 72 hours and an app for claims: tender deadlines

The Uruguayan department of Canelones is initiating a comprehensive plan to address its road infrastructure, focusing on rapid pothole repair and sustained maintenance. The Intendencia de Canelones has opened a public tender for companies to execute a new mobile pothole repair program. This initiative aims to reconstruct and maintain the department's roads efficiently.

Laura Morales, the general director of Public Works for the Intendencia de Canelones, highlighted key aspects of the project. The selected company must provide a dedicated crew available at all times across all municipalities. This rapid response unit will focus on addressing urgent pothole issues with maximum efficiency. According to tender documents confirmed by Intendant Francisco Legnani, the project's core objective is to eliminate potholes and other road defects within a strict 72-hour timeframe across all 32 municipalities.

Complementing the repair efforts, the plan includes the development of a mobile application. This app, available on both Play Store and App Store, will empower citizens to directly report potholes needing repair via their smartphones. Morales noted that the tender might result in the selection of two companies: one for the physical repairs and another for the software development and management of the app.

In addition to the emergency response, a separate crew will handle more in-depth maintenance. Morales specified that priority will be given to older areas like Pando, Canelones, Santa Lucia, and Las Piedras, as well as newer areas requiring upkeep, such as Barra de Carrasco and Parque Miramar. This comprehensive road maintenance program is slated to run for four years. The deadline for submitting bids for this public tender is August 14, 2026, at 10:30 AM.
