Cardozo Lucena Claims $70,000 from Cerro Porteño

Paraguayan footballer Ángel Cardozo Lucena, currently playing for Nacional, has filed a lawsuit against his former club, Cerro Porteño, seeking $70,000 in outstanding payments. The midfielder alleges that Cerro Porteño failed to fulfill financial commitments agreed upon in 2024.

Cardozo Lucena, 31, represented Cerro Porteño from mid-2019 until August 2023, accumulating 138 appearances, scoring 11 goals, and providing 14 assists across two title-winning seasons. According to the lawsuit, Lucena signed a contract termination agreement with the club in July 2024. This agreement stipulated that he would receive $70,000, equivalent to approximately 409,500,000 Paraguayan guaraníes, in two installments.

Lucena claims that Cerro Porteño was supposed to issue two checks for $35,000 each, payable 30 and 60 days after the agreement. However, the club allegedly did not honor this promise, prompting Lucena to seek legal recourse to recover the owed amount.

Following his departure from Cerro Porteño, Cardozo Lucena had a brief international stint with Colón de Santa Fe in Argentina in 2023. He later joined Nacional during the current winter transfer window after completing a second spell with Rubio Ñu. He has since made four appearances for Nacional in the 2026 Clausura championship.
