Nacional's board backs coach Jorge Bava despite recent loss

The board of directors at Nacional has opted to retain coach Jorge Bava, with "an ample majority" of members voting to keep him on the bench. This decision was made following a recent defeat, the tenth under Bava's leadership in twenty-four games.

During a closed-door meeting at the Gran Parque Central stadium, Bava and the directors discussed the team's campaign. Club president Ricardo Vairo stated that Bava is confident in his ability to overcome the current slump and secure a title for the "Tricolor." Vairo also noted that recent experiences at Nacional suggest that frequent coaching changes have not historically solved the team's problems.

Nacional has seen significant coaching turnover in recent years. The team began last year with Martín Lasarte, followed by Pablo Peirano and Jadson Viera. In 2023, the club was managed by Ricardo Zielinski, then Álvaro Gutiérrez, before Álvaro Recoba took over. Bava's tenure has yielded eleven wins, three draws, and ten losses. The team finished seventh in the Apertura tournament, nine points behind the champion, and was eliminated in the Copa Libertadores group stage. They also exited the Copa Sudamericana in the round of 32.
