Central American Games organizers 'more than satisfied' halfway through

Halfway through the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, organizers in the Dominican Republic are expressing "more than satisfaction" with the event's execution, calling it the largest logistical undertaking in the region's history.

José Monegro, president of the Organizing Committee, told EFE that feedback from the heads of missions representing the 37 participating countries and territories has been "extraordinary." He also noted the positive reaction from the local population.

The heads of missions tell us daily that their experience has been extraordinary. To that, we add the satisfactory reaction of the population with the Games.

Despite facing significant challenges, including unprecedented high temperatures that led to a meteorological emergency, the organizers have maintained operations with "great responsibility." Monegro acknowledged some minor incidents, such as power outages at sports venues, but emphasized the prompt responses to resolve them.

We are under seven degrees more than had been predicted for these dates, we are in a meteorological emergency and even so we execute, we function with great responsibility and this is reflected in the satisfaction of Dominican and foreign athletes.

Luis Mejía Oviedo, president of Centro Caribe Sports, described himself as "nervous, but satisfied." He pointed to the unprecedented invitation for the press to tour the athletes' village as a sign of confidence in their operations. The village is reportedly functioning so well that boxing rings have been set up inside the gymnasium.

As the competition progresses, Mexico continues to dominate the medal standings, having secured 214 medals, including 97 gold, 65 silver, and 52 bronze. This marks the third time the Dominican Republic has hosted these games, having previously done so in 1974 and 1986, and also hosted the Pan American Games in 2003.

We are nervous, but satisfied. The direction of the Games holds four meetings daily and at this point, the one held by Centro Caribe Sports we have suspended until Monday, aware of the good progress of the event.
