Ceramic artist Hsu Ming-hsiang's solo exhibition 'Construction and Architecture of Life' on display at Ceramics Museum until August 30

The Taoyuan Ceramics Museum is currently hosting a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Hsu Ming-hsiang, titled "Construction and Architecture of Life." Running until August 30, the exhibition presents 28 representative ceramic sculptures created over more than three decades of her artistic practice.

Hsu Ming-hsiang's work delves into themes ranging from memories of the land and family emotions to explorations of her inner life. She is particularly recognized for her realistic sculpting techniques, which meticulously recreate the beauty of traditional Taiwanese houses, bricks, tiles, and architectural elements. Her "Old House Series," inspired by her childhood memories of rural Miaoli and ancestral homes, captures the textures of weathered walls and window lattices, preserving collective memories of Taiwanese folk culture.

From 2013 to 2018, Hsu expanded her focus to "home" and living spaces, with works like "Sofa," "My Brand Bag," and "Shoes" in her "Home" series. These pieces integrate furniture, objects, and elements of old houses, using the reconstruction of living rooms and household items to narrate warm stories of family emotions and life experiences. More recent creations blend ancient and modern architectural vocabulary, such as "Home Connected to the Cloud," where buildings appear to float on cloud-like forms, transforming "home" into a concept transcending physical space and becoming a landscape of life carrying imagination and spiritual sustenance.

Currently, Hsu continues to deepen the relationship between people, architecture, and the inner universe. She uses "rock climbing" as a new creative metaphor, likening her life journey to the process of ascent, facing the unknown and difficulties while constantly seeking direction and an exit. The exhibition offers a comprehensive look at her artistic evolution and thematic explorations.
