Charged and Jailed: 'Chefinho,' Alleged Narco Boss Arrested in Pedro Juan

Paraguayan prosecutors have formally charged Jorge Denis, known as 'Chefinho,' with drug possession and trafficking, seeking his pre-trial detention. Denis, 26, is considered a key figure in a criminal organization operating along the Paraguay-Brazil border. His arrest, along with two others, Rubén Darío Vargas Gómez, 22, and Marcos David Colmán Rojas, 29, followed an anti-drug police raid in Pedro Juan Caballero.

During the operation, authorities seized over 21 kilograms of cocaine and a vehicle. Jorge Denis is the half-brother of Jorge Teófilo Samudio González, alias 'Samura,' a reputed member of the Brazilian criminal group Comando Vermelho. Samura's armed rescue in 2019 resulted in the death of a police commissioner.

According to anti-drug prosecutor Celso Morales, Jorge Denis chose not to make a statement to the Public Ministry. The other two detainees, Vargas Gómez and Colmán Rojas, claimed they were at the location to collect a debt owed to Denis. Investigators are currently analyzing seized evidence, including mobile phones, to uncover potential connections between the detainees and Brazilian criminal factions, particularly focusing on Chefinho's alleged ties.
