Chika Chukwumerije Vows to Unearth New Talents for Abia Taekwondo

Nigeria's Abia State is poised for a significant uplift in its taekwondo program under the leadership of Olympic bronze medallist and former African champion, Chika Chukwumerije. His recent appointment as the chairman of the Abia Taekwondo Association, alongside a 13-member board, signals a clear commitment from the state government, represented by Deputy Governor Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, to transform Abia into a leading sporting state.

Chukwumerije's vision extends beyond mere competition; he aims to harness the unique strengths of Abia to identify and cultivate young talent, particularly from schools. His pledge is to groom these budding athletes into world-class competitors, emphasizing a grassroots approach to talent development. "Our focus will be on discovering talents at the grassroots, grooming them at home, and turning them into world beaters," he stated, underscoring a dedication to nurturing local potential.

Beyond athletic development, Chukwumerije recognizes the broader societal and economic implications of sports. He pointed to Aba's established industrial capabilities as a potential hub for manufacturing sporting equipment, not only for Abia but for the entire nation. We promise to give our best to make Abia one of the best sporting states in the country.
