Chilean Piero Maza to referee Boca Juniors vs. Recoleta FC in Copa Sudamericana

Chilean referee Piero Maza has been appointed to officiate the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana Round of 16 match between Argentina's Boca Juniors and Paraguay's Recoleta FC. The game is scheduled for August 11 at the Tomás Adolfo Ducó stadium, home of Huracán in Buenos Aires.

Maza will be supported by a full Chilean officiating crew. Claudio Urrutia and Juan Serrano will serve as assistant referees, José Cabreo as the fourth official, and Juan Lara will be in charge of the VAR, assisted by Edson Cisternas.

Recoleta FC, a modest Paraguayan team, is making its historic debut in international competition. The team, managed by Jorge González Frutos, secured first place in Group D during the group stage, surpassing notable clubs like Santos and San Lorenzo. Their advancement to the knockout stage marks a significant achievement for the club.

Their opponent, Boca Juniors, reached this stage after a challenging play-off round, where they defeated O'Higgins of Rancagua in a penalty shootout. The upcoming match against Recoleta FC represents a significant step in Boca Juniors' quest for the Copa Sudamericana title.
