China on Alert as Typhoon Dolphin Approaches Coast

China is on alert as Typhoon Dolphin approaches, with a yellow warning in effect. The national meteorological center forecasts the storm will make landfall between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning along the coast, impacting Zhejiang and Fujian provinces.

Dolphin, currently classified as a strong typhoon, was located about 900 kilometers east of Wenzhou in Zhejiang. It is expected to move westward at 15 to 20 kilometers per hour, maintaining or slightly increasing its intensity. The typhoon is forecast to cross Japan's Ryukyu Islands before entering the East China Sea and nearing the Chinese coast.

Authorities have implemented emergency responses. Zhejiang province has suspended 21 passenger ferry routes, closed offshore construction sites, and moved over 10,000 island residents to safety. Fujian has activated a fourth-level emergency response, while Guangdong is controlling naval traffic. These preparations come after Dolphin caused significant disruption in Japan, leading to evacuations and flight cancellations. China has experienced a summer marked by severe weather, including heavy rains, floods, and landslides, resulting in numerous casualties and large-scale evacuations.
