Chuncheon Opens 'Idea Library' for 'Tweenagers' Offering Creative and Tech Experiences

Chuncheon City is embracing the unique needs of its younger generation with the launch of the 'Idea Library,' a novel cultural hub specifically designed for 'tweenagers'—the demographic bridging childhood and adolescence.

Officially opening on June 11 after a preview on June 4, the library is situated within the Sangsang Eoullim Center in Jo-un-dong. It aims to be more than just a place for books; it's envisioned as a dynamic complex cultural space where children and adolescents can engage in play, hands-on creation, and even career exploration.

The library's three floors are thoughtfully organized. The first floor serves as a public lobby, accessible to all citizens. The second floor, a 'Book Lounge,' is designed for shared use by tweenagers and the general public. The third floor, dubbed 'Idea Island,' is exclusively for tweenagers, offering cutting-edge experiences such as Extended Reality (XR) and Virtual Reality (VR) simulations, along with facilities like a karaoke room and multimedia center.

Content at the Idea Library is curated to reflect the interests of its primary users, featuring a diverse collection of world comics, children's novels, and e-books. Activities like photo card creation, science kit assembly, and VR-based career aptitude tests are planned, ensuring an engaging and enriching environment. Chuncheon City intends for the library to be an open space for exploration and self-expression, moving beyond the traditional quiet library setting. Pilot programs in collaboration with elementary schools are also in the works to refine the initial offerings.
