Collective Sees No Progress in Plan Against Displacement

A year after a significant mobilization by the Frente Anti-Gentrificación de la Ciudad de México, the organization asserts that the city government has made no tangible progress on its promises to combat displacement and ensure affordable housing. The group's spokesperson, Eduardo, stated in an interview that despite the government's announcement of a "Bando 1" with 14 action points for a livable city with affordable housing, none of these measures have been realized.

Eduardo specifically criticized the lack of action on rent price caps and the ineffective attempt to register short-term lodging platforms. "There is no one who has been implemented, a cap on rents was announced and it didn't happen, there is no progress," he stated. The spokesperson added that economic and real estate powers continue to operate with impunity, dictating terms despite official plans.

The collective also voiced strong criticism regarding point nine of the "Bando 1," which proposed creating affordable housing in collaboration with real estate developers. The group had warned from the outset that this approach would not be effective. A year after their initial protests, the Frente Anti-Gentrificación views this anniversary as an opportune moment to declare a lack of progress and a failure to curb speculation in the construction sector.
