Colombia leads speed skating medal standings at Central American and Caribbean Games

Colombia concluded the speed skating events at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo by topping the medal table. The nation secured gold and silver in the men's 1,000-meter race on Saturday, solidifying its dominance in the sport.

Colombian skater Jhon Edward Tascón claimed the gold medal with a time of 1:23.546. His compatriot, Juan Mantilla, earned the silver medal, finishing just behind Tascón with a time of 1:23.667. Sebastián Ruiz of El Salvador took home the bronze medal.

Earlier, Colombian athlete Collin Castro had already secured the gold medal in the women's 1,000-meter speed skating event. The speed skating competitions commenced on July 28 and concluded on Saturday at the Patinódromo del Parque Deportivo Paseo 30 de Mayo in the Dominican capital.

The XXV Central American and Caribbean Games are hosting 6,200 athletes who will compete across 40 sports and 53 disciplines, vying for 3,244 medals. These games also serve as a qualifying event for international competitions, with an eye toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
