Colombian family in custody in Iceland

A Colombian family of three is in custody in Iceland amid suspicions of drug trafficking. The family, identified as Estefína Arboleda Herrera, 34, Jeovvany Martínez Quinchía, 54, and his wife Elisabeth Martínez Quinchia, 57, arrived in Iceland on July 28 from Madrid, Spain. Relatives reported the family missing after they failed to make contact following their arrival. The family had informed relatives they had reached Iceland and were heading to the Center Hotel Plaza in downtown Reykjavik, where they had booked accommodation. Since then, their phones have gone unanswered, and neither family nor friends know their current location. Jón Halldór Sigurðsson, deputy chief superintendent of the Suðurnes region police's investigative department, confirmed that the case is being handled by the police and that authorities know the family's whereabouts. However, he declined to provide further details about the ongoing investigation. The family had reportedly been traveling through Europe before arriving in Iceland. The circumstances surrounding their detention and the specific details of the alleged drug trafficking operation remain unclear.
