Concrete floor collapses at Edirne home entrance, one injured

An unexpected and alarming structural failure occurred in Edirne, leaving one resident injured and raising safety concerns.

The incident took place in the Çavuşbey neighborhood when the concrete floor at the entrance of a two-story house gave way. The area, which reportedly had a coal cellar underneath, suddenly collapsed for reasons yet to be determined. G.K., who was on the floor at the time, was trapped beneath the debris and sustained injuries.

Emergency services, including police, medical personnel, and firefighters, were dispatched to the scene. Rescue teams worked to extract the injured individual from the rubble, and G.K. was subsequently transported to Trakya University Medical Faculty Hospital for treatment. In a separate operation, another resident, S.O., who was on the second floor and experiencing mobility issues due to a health condition, was safely evacuated by firefighters using a ladder truck through a window.

Authorities have cordoned off the affected house and prohibited entry as police conduct an investigation to ascertain the cause of the collapse. This incident highlights the importance of structural integrity and timely maintenance of residential properties, underscoring the potential dangers posed by unforeseen failures.
