Conmebol supervises Barranquilla stadium works for Sudamericana final

A delegation from the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) is currently on-site in Barranquilla, Colombia, to oversee the ongoing renovation of the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez. The stadium is slated to host the final of the Copa Sudamericana on November 21.

The expansion and modernization of the historic stadium, originally inaugurated in 1986, commenced on July 23 with the installation of a new seating tier. The Colombian Football Federation (FCF) is committed to completing these upgrades before the championship match, ensuring the venue meets international standards for South America's second-most prestigious club competition.

Conmebol's inspection team comprises experts from various critical areas, including security, operations, competitions, health, transportation, broadcasting, media, legal affairs, social media, and marketing. Their assessment, alongside officials from the Barranquilla Mayor's Office and FCF delegates, will ensure all aspects of the stadium's readiness are addressed. The project aims to significantly boost the stadium's capacity, raising it from 43,000 to 65,000 spectators.
