Consultations underway for Tabung Haji Act amendment

Malaysia is in the process of amending the Tabung Haji Act 1995, with comprehensive stakeholder consultations currently being conducted. This move aims to gather the best possible views and input before the proposed changes proceed to the next stage.

Datuk Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), stated that these consultations are a commitment by the government to fortify the legal framework and management of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH). The amendments are designed to align with recommendations put forth by the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) that investigated the institution's management and operations.

All the work has been done and will be intensified, God willing. We feel it will be implemented as soon as possible. We await the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently reiterated the government's intention to amend the Act. He stressed that this is a crucial step to enhance governance and rectify any weaknesses within the institution. The amendments are vital for preserving the trust of the Muslim community and ensuring TH is managed with a stronger governance structure.

While the Ministry of Religious Affairs is facilitating these consultations, Dr. Zulkifli noted that any actions related to other issues raised concerning TH would be handled by the relevant authorities, as his ministry does not have the jurisdiction for enforcement. He indicated that the process is being expedited and awaits further directives from the Prime Minister.
