Copa Airlines resumes operations in Barquisimeto, Venezuela

Copa Airlines is strengthening its presence in Venezuela by resuming operations to Barquisimeto. This move signifies a crucial step in the airline's gradual restoration of services within the country, bringing it closer to fully reactivating its pre-disruption network. The return to Barquisimeto is strategically important, as it enhances connectivity for the central-western region of Venezuela to Copa's hub in Panama, offering passengers access to a vast network of destinations across the Americas.

Roberto Pulido, Copa Airlines' General Manager in Venezuela, highlighted the significance of returning to Barquisimeto, a city where the airline has operated for 29 years. He emphasized that Barquisimeto is an essential part of their operations in Venezuela and that resuming flights there helps fortify the connectivity of Venezuelans with the Americas. Pulido described this reactivation phase as a decisive advancement in the airline's plan to normalize operations in the country, viewing it as the final push to recover their previous operational levels.

The resumption of flights to Barquisimeto is part of a broader expansion strategy initiated in early 2026. Copa Airlines aims to progressively increase its flight frequencies, targeting around 34 weekly flights between Venezuela and Panama by the end of May 2026, contingent on demand and operational capacity. Initially, the Barquisimeto-Panama route will operate three times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, utilizing Boeing 737-800 aircraft configured for 166 passengers. This expansion is expected to benefit business travel, regional tourism, and light cargo transport.
