Court liquidates 'National Body of Moroccan Translators' association

A court in Rabat has ordered the dissolution and liquidation of an association named the "National Body of Moroccan Translators." The Primary Court of Rabat issued a final ruling on July 27, 2026, invalidating the association's bylaws and mandating its closure.

The legal dispute centered on the association's name. Several freelance translators established the group under Morocco's 1958 law on the right to form associations. However, questions were raised regarding the legitimacy of using the term "National Body" for an organization formed under general association statutes, especially when professional bodies in other legal and judicial fields are established by specific legislative texts.

The court's decision, referenced under ruling number 1517 in civil case file 1830/1201/2025, declared the association's bylaws null and void. The ruling also stipulated that the legal representative of the association would bear the legal costs, while other requests were dismissed.
