Greece boasts thousands of stunning beaches, but only one has earned a spot on the international list of the top 25 nudist destinations: Red Beach, or Kokkini Ammos, located in Matala, southern Crete. This renowned beach has been a focal point for naturists for decades, attracting visitors seeking a natural approach to swimming and sunbathing.

The beach derives its name from the distinctive reddish hue of its sand and surrounding rocks. Accessible via a 20-minute hike or a short boat trip from Matala, its relative seclusion and the crystal-clear waters of the Libyan Sea create a unique natural setting that draws global visitors.

Red Beach gained significant fame in the 1960s when it became a favored spot for hippies drawn to Matala's alternative lifestyle. It retains some of that bohemian atmosphere today, offering amenities like umbrellas, sunbeds, and a small beach bar during the summer months.

CNN Travel specifically cited Red Beach's natural beauty, unique landscape, and history as reasons for its inclusion among the world's premier nudist spots. The publication clarified that rock carvings at the beach are contemporary art, not ancient Minoan artifacts. Red Beach stands as Greece's sole representative on this list, underscoring the country's continued appeal in specialized travel categories.
