Customs Dept Collects RM43.62 Billion in 6 Months

The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) has reported a strong revenue collection of RM43.62 billion for the period of January 1 to June 30, surpassing its initial projection of RM40 billion by RM3.62 billion.

This collection signifies a substantial increase of RM7.93 billion, or 22.22%, compared to the RM35.69 billion collected during the corresponding period last year. The department's Director-General, Datuk Amran Ahmad, stated that JKDM is committed to refining its existing strategies and approaches to maintain this momentum and meet the Ministry of Finance's annual revenue target of RM80 billion.

Therefore, JKDM will continue to improve existing strategies and approaches to maintain this momentum and achieve the revenue collection target of RM80 billion set by the Ministry of Finance for this year.

Amran outlined that JKDM will continue to focus on its three core functions: collecting national revenue, facilitating trade, and enforcing laws to protect the nation's revenue, economy, and interests. To sustain this positive trend, the department plans to strengthen risk management, compliance audits, and targeted operations by optimizing data analytics, technology, and effective profiling.

Furthermore, JKDM is intensifying actions against high-risk commodities, misuse of tax incentives, and non-compliance to prevent revenue leakage and ensure the year's collection target is met. Last year, JKDM recorded a total revenue of RM76.18 billion, exceeding its initial projection by RM8.93 billion.
