Czechs admire Warsaw's 'great transformation' of city center

Czech media outlets are expressing admiration for Warsaw's extensive urban transformation project, known as "Nowe Centrum Warszawy" (New Center of Warsaw). The initiative aims to revitalize the city center, replacing wide roads and asphalt with green spaces, trees, fountains, pedestrian walkways, and bike paths.

The project has sparked debate among Warsaw residents, with some criticizing the reduction of car access and parking, while others applaud the shift towards a greener, more pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly environment. The city administration states the goal is to create elegant, comfortable public spaces, acknowledging that restoring the pre-war urban layout is largely impossible.

Czech news portal Seznam Zprávy highlighted the positive aspects of Warsaw's "great transformation." The revitalization of Zgoda and Złota streets, for instance, created over three hectares of new green space with approximately 200 new trees. The project also incorporates underground water retention systems to combat climate change impacts.

Future plans include the construction of the TR Warszawa theater and modernization of the passage between the Centrum metro station and the train station. The Czech media's positive reception underscores the international interest in Warsaw's ambitious urban development efforts.
