Danish javelin thrower eliminated early from European Championship final

Danish javelin thrower Arthur Wiborg Petersen did not advance past the initial rounds of the final at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. Petersen, who had surprisingly qualified for the final on Thursday, finished 11th overall after failing to secure a spot in the top-8.

In his final attempts, Petersen's throws measured 67.44 meters, 68.21 meters, and 71.63 meters. This performance was not enough to earn him three additional throws and secure a higher ranking.

To have reached the top-8, Petersen would have needed to throw more than six meters further. The 26-year-old athlete, ranked 32nd in Europe, had achieved a throw of 79.30 meters in his first attempt during qualification, which was the tenth-best throw overall.

Despite the outcome in the final, Petersen can leave the championships with his head held high due to his unexpected qualification for the event. The championships conclude on Sunday.
