DAP Congress: Nga Kor Ming Confident Delegates Will Prioritize National Stability

DAP Deputy Chairman Nga Kor Ming expressed confidence that the party's delegates will prioritize national stability when making decisions at the upcoming DAP Congress on August 16. He anticipates that more than 4,000 party representatives will exercise their political maturity, honed over 60 years of the party's struggle, to vote in favor of national interests and stability.

"I am confident that, as a party that loves the country, a party that has struggled for so long for 60 years, I am confident in the wisdom of these over 4,000 delegates," Nga told reporters. "They will vote according to the country's interests, safeguard the country's stability, and make the wisest choices in line with national stability. That is my belief."

While Nga conveyed his trust in the delegates' judgment, he refrained from specifically stating whether DAP ministers and deputy ministers should remain in or leave the current unity government. This decision is central to the upcoming congress. DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook had previously announced that the special congress would allow delegates to determine the party's official position on whether to remain with the unity government until the end of its term or to withdraw.

The decision to hold this extraordinary congress comes in the wake of DAP's disappointing performance in recent state elections. The party faced setbacks in the Sabah, Johor, and Negeri Sembilan state polls, which also saw Loke himself lose his seat in the Chennah state constituency. The congress is therefore seen as a critical juncture for the party to reassess its political direction and its role within the ruling coalition.
