Data Breach Exposes Personal Information of 8.7 Million Passengers from Three UK Airports

Personal information belonging to 8.7 million customers of three British airports was stolen during a cyberattack last weekend. Manchester Airports Group (MAG), the operator of Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands airports, confirmed the breach.

The compromised data includes email addresses, phone numbers, postal codes, and vehicle registration numbers. However, MAG emphasized that payment and banking information were not accessed by the unauthorized party. The attack also did not disrupt flight operations or compromise passenger safety.

The breach involved information related to parking bookings, fast-track passes, lounge access, and airport Wi-Fi registrations. While sensitive financial data was not affected, the exposure of personal contact details and vehicle information raises concerns about potential misuse, such as phishing attempts or unauthorized tracking.

MAG stated that it is taking the incident seriously and is working to enhance its security measures. The group is also advising affected customers to remain vigilant against potential scams or fraudulent activities that might arise from the leaked data.
