Deadly Accidents Plague Bouira Highway Section

A single Wednesday saw a tragic series of three severe accidents on the highway passing through the wilaya of Bouira, Algeria. The stretch of road between the communes of Bechloul and El Adjiba, located east of the wilaya, became the scene of multiple collisions, underscoring the perilous state of the infrastructure.

The most dramatic incident occurred around 6 p.m., involving a pile-up of six passenger cars, a bus, and a construction vehicle. According to the Civil Protection services, this violent collision led to one fatality at the scene and left two individuals injured. They were subsequently transported to the Bechloul hospital.

Earlier that afternoon, around 4 p.m., the same Bechloul section witnessed another accident. A vehicle skidded, resulting in injuries to five people, ranging in age from 7 to 60 years old. These individuals sustained various contusions and traumas before receiving emergency care and being transferred to Bechloul hospital.

The third accident, completing the day's grim tally, took place on the El Adjiba stretch. This collision involved two cars and a truck, causing injuries to four more people. These victims, suffering from diverse injuries from minor bruises to more significant traumas, were promptly attended to by Civil Protection teams and taken to the M'Chedallah hospital.

These incidents draw attention to the critical condition of a 26-kilometer segment of the highway, stretching from El Adjiba to the Bouira administrative center, passing through Bechloul and El Asnam. The road's unprecedented state of degradation makes driving extremely difficult in certain areas, particularly on routes heading towards Algiers. This deterioration poses a significant safety risk to daily commuters. Despite previous rehabilitation efforts that yielded no lasting results, new similar works are currently underway, exacerbating traffic congestion and driver frustration amidst challenging weather conditions.
