Del Toro Resists Seixas's Charge in Tour de France Time Trial

Isaac del Toro held onto his provisional third place in the Tour de France during a grueling individual time trial on the shores of Lake Geneva. The Mexican rider, competing for UAE, resisted a strong push from his French rival Paul Seixas of Decathlon, though he conceded five seconds. His lead over Seixas for third overall and the white jersey for the best young rider is now a mere 20 seconds.

The stage, featuring a demanding climb to the Larringes port and a technical descent, saw Del Toro start strongly, gaining a 3-second advantage in the initial ascent. However, Seixas proved stronger on the latter part of the climb, matching Del Toro's time by the summit. The descent, described as vertiginous and dangerous, saw Seixas gain a three-second lead.

Despite Seixas's advantage heading into the final 9-kilometer flat section along the lake, Del Toro managed to limit his losses. The intense duel between the two young cyclists, considered future stars of the sport, captivated the crowd. French spectators hoped Seixas could revive hopes of a French winner, while numerous Mexicans cheered for Del Toro.

Both riders' teams anticipate a fierce battle in the upcoming Alpine stages. UAE aims to secure two podium spots, as they did in 2023. Del Toro, who finished second in last year's Giro d'Italia and is making his Tour debut, expressed satisfaction with his time trial performance, especially after being involved in a crash that sidelined Jonas Vingegaard. He views his overall performance positively, despite the challenges.
