Delcy Rodríguez Advocates for Regional Integration Following Official Visit to Barbados

Upon her return to Venezuela, acting President Delcy Rodríguez shared her optimism regarding the outcomes of her official visit to Barbados. In a message posted on X, she underscored the significance of regional integration as a crucial pathway for fostering employment and driving national development.

Rodríguez expressed contentment with the "results of our work agenda in Barbados," stating her conviction that "international cooperation is fundamental to opening opportunities for our youth, generating jobs, and boosting the country's productive development." This sentiment reflects a broader Venezuelan strategy to leverage international partnerships to overcome economic challenges and create avenues for growth.

During her visit, Rodríguez engaged in productive discussions with Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley. The two leaders agreed to collaborate on key sectors, including energy, food production, and tourism. Notably, Rodríguez extended an invitation to Barbados to consider investing in Venezuela's vital oil sector, signaling a desire to attract foreign capital and expertise.

This trip to Barbados marks Rodríguez's second official international visit since assuming the acting presidency on January 5th, following an earlier trip to Grenada. Both visits occurred after the lifting of U.S. sanctions against her on April 1st. Barbados holds a notable position in recent Venezuelan diplomacy, having hosted crucial talks between the Venezuelan government and the opposition in 2023, which led to an agreement on electoral guarantees for the upcoming presidential elections. The two nations also signed a bilateral cooperation memorandum of understanding in the same year, highlighting a strengthening relationship.
