Democratic Party padel tournament brings together young talent as a social gathering

Padel served as both a sporting contest and a meeting place when Indonesia’s Democratic Party faction held its 2026 tournament in Jakarta.

Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, known as Ibas, opened the event on Sunday, September 6, as part of celebrations marking 25 years of the Democratic Party. He urged young people to treat sport as a positive space for maintaining health, developing their abilities, building character and improving competitiveness.

The tournament drew 42 teams and 84 participants. They competed in children’s matches for ages 10 to 12, a category for teenagers and university students, and an adult lower bronze to bronze category. Young supporters added to the lively atmosphere, while participants came from a range of backgrounds, including children, students, the general public and Jakarta padel communities.

Ibas praised the participants and organizers and described padel as a contemporary sport open to everyone. “Padel is the sport of today, a sport for all of us,” he said in a statement from Jakarta.

He also emphasized the social side of the game. “Padel is not just about bringing a friend, it can also help us make friends,” he said. In his view, sport can support fitness, create opportunities to meet others and encourage children and young people to keep developing.
