Deputy Defense Minister discusses U.S. base in Poland and joint Patriot production in Washington

Poland's Deputy Minister of National Defense held discussions in Washington with counterparts at the Pentagon and the U.S. State Department regarding key defense cooperation issues. Among the topics were the presence of U.S. military forces in Poland, joint arms production, and the manufacturing of missiles for Patriot air defense systems.

A significant point of discussion was the potential production of Patriot missiles in Ukraine, a concept previously raised by then-U.S. President Donald Trump. Poland proposed a trilateral production arrangement involving the United States, Ukraine, and Poland. Deputy Minister of National Defense expressed that this offer aims to address U.S. concerns by ensuring the production occurs in a secure location. "This is a product that is needed practically all over the world. Hence our offer to participate in such co-production," she stated.

Poland also presented arguments for establishing a Patriot servicing center in Poland. The Deputy Minister noted "great understanding in Washington" regarding Poland's developing defense industry and its strategic geopolitical location, which could favor such a decision. Discussions also focused on increasing the U.S. military presence in Poland, with Poland outlining concrete steps already taken, including a Council of Ministers resolution and a draft law to secure funding for a potential base.

Both Polish and U.S. defense ministries have established teams to work on the potential U.S. military base in Poland. While the final decision rests with the U.S. President, Poland's goal is to prepare all necessary conditions for a favorable outcome. The U.S. team working on the base project is reportedly connected with the Pentagon and Deputy Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby.
