Deutsche Bahn to close Berlin-Hamburg line again at night for repairs

Deutsche Bahn is implementing further nighttime closures on the recently renovated Berlin-Hamburg railway line in August and September. The company cited the need to address remaining defects discovered after several weeks of full operation and to make optimizations. These closures aim to ensure the high-speed line's continued performance.

During August, the line will be closed on the nights of August 15-16 and August 29-30. Additional closures are planned for September, with Deutsche Bahn emphasizing that these are scheduled to avoid major travel periods. While most regional transport will be accommodated by replacement services, some long-distance and freight trains will be rerouted.

The Berlin-Hamburg line underwent extensive renovation from August 2025 to June 2026. The initial completion date was April 30, 2026, but the railway cited frost at the beginning of the year as the reason for a delay of about six weeks. The line was partially reopened in mid-May, with trains now able to reach speeds of 230 km/h on most sections.
