Dhofar launches campaign to plant 4 million native tree seeds

The Environment Authority in Oman's Dhofar Governorate has initiated a large-scale environmental campaign focused on planting 4 million native tree seeds across the governorate's mountains. This effort is a key component of ongoing initiatives to expand vegetation cover, combat desertification, boost biodiversity, and restore natural ecosystems.

Choosing the Dhofar Khareef season provides optimal conditions for germination and early growth, thanks to the abundant rainfall and dense fog, which contribute to increasing the chances of seed germination and growth during their early stages.

The campaign, running from July 20th to 30th, involves cooperation with the Dhofar Municipality and the "Awareness" initiative team, drawing active participation from local community members. It spans the Wilayats of Mirbat, Taqah, Salalah, Rakhyut, and Dhalkut.

Hatem bin Salem Al Mahri, Director of the Vegetation Development Department at the Directorate General of Environment in Dhofar, noted that this marks the fifth consecutive year for the campaign. He highlighted that the timing during the Dhofar Khareef season provides ideal conditions for seed germination and early growth due to abundant rainfall and dense fog. These factors significantly increase the chances of successful germination and seedling development, helping them establish strong root systems to withstand drier periods.
