Dior Collection Channels Sculptural Artistry and Indian Craftsmanship

Dior's creative director Jonathan Anderson has unveiled a fall-winter collection deeply intertwined with the world of art, drawing inspiration from American sculptor Lynda Benglis and traditional Indian design. This marks another collaboration where Anderson translates the work of an artist he admires into fashion.

The collection reinterprets the dynamic forms and vibrant textures of Benglis's sculptures, many of which are created using industrial materials like wire mesh and latex. Elements from Benglis's "Peacock" series, inspired by peacocks seen in India, are evident in the collection's colorful floral embroidery and elaborate beadwork, appearing on garments, shoes, and jewelry.

Anderson also incorporated influences from New Mexico, Benglis's current home and studio, through floral motifs and rich color palettes. Further enriching the collection, Dior has integrated antique 18th-century chintz fabrics, hand-painted or block-printed, into new versions of its "Petit Dîner" and "Lady Dior Mini" bags. Some of these bags were created in collaboration with Benglis herself.

This collection continues Anderson's practice of referencing artists, following his debut haute couture collection for Dior, which was inspired by the ceramic works of Magdalene A.N. Odundo. The fusion of Benglis's sculptural artistry with Indian artisanal techniques highlights Dior's commitment to a rich, culturally diverse aesthetic.
